Canvas

From rplace.live wiki
Revision as of 13:45, 5 August 2023 by imported>Hoho (Turkey)

A canvas is a board which allows anyone to place pixels, anywhere. People are allowed to make pixel art, to destroy pixel art, and anything possible using the 32 different colors of pixels. The way the game works people can place 1 pixel, then after a certain reload time from about to 1 10 seconds depending on the server controls, another can be placed.

Orginally Canvas had a few seconds cool down, and premium members could half that. Canvas 2 had a faster reload. Then not in 2023, the reload speed has been changed several time usually 1 to 3 seconds.

Place.tk was renamed Place.live in July 2023 (and also changed host server)

Canvas 1

First

Canvas 1 was the original canvas of the website. Then, it took the form of the final 2000x2000 r/place canvas. Users were allowed to interact by placing pixels at a lower cooldown. On the of the differences is that R/place featured a live server chat and an official Discord offering communitty and technical support.

Second

Canvas 1 was reset for the first time in a year on 1 April, 2023. It shrunk to 1000x1000.

One of the major events that happened was large Irian flag that cut acroos the top of the flag. (see also Farsi)

The canvas would would be reset to white in July 2023 by popular vote. The reset was decided by popular vote.In controst to the previous end of life event for canvas such as a whitening/bleach out (only color white such as the first season of Cavnas 1) or suprise non-return (aka canvas 2 first season).

Then came when Zekia posted on the Discord annoucments the following poll:

@here Quick poll guys, would you like the current main canvas to be made bigger (expanded), wiped so we have a white canvas, or to stay like how it currently is? (Mevcut ana kanvasın büyütülmesini (genişletilmesini), silinerek beyaz bir kanvas elde edilmesini mi yoksa şu anki gibi kalmasını mı isterdiniz?)

🟢 **= New blank canvas** (Yeni boş tuval) 🟠 **= Keep current canvas but make it bigger!** (Mevcut tuvali koru ama daha büyük yap) 🔴 **= Change nothing and keep the current canvas** (Hiçbir şeyi değiştirmeyin ve mevcut tuvali koruyun)

The vote options were 44 🟢, 21 🟠, 7 🔴

This leading the end of the C1 second season and reset to white.

Blue corner, long absent from place live/tk made a comeback in July 2023 but was soon wiped of by agressive raids

Canvas 1 was reset by popular vote on 4 July 2023. It runs to this day.

The canvas heavily alterted by a large influx of players in July 2023. Also a series of multibot attacks in late july lead to a series of artistic disruptions and repairs. The attacks included a full canvas nuke to german flag, grey out, and anime face.

Canvas 2

First

Canvas 2 was a complimentary canvas. It was created to celebrate the 2000 member milestone in the Discord server, achieved on July 7, 2022. Initially, the canvas was a 500x500 canvas, though it expanded to become a tall 500x750 canvas on 17 August 2022, and to a once again square 750x750 canvas on 4 December 2022.

A third canvas 2 expansion was planned but stalled and that was the end of that season at that time. Eventually the 2nd canvas was rebooted in 2023

Second

Canvas 2 was booted up again on 1 April, 2023. It lasted until 1 June 2023, when server problems killed and corrupted the canvas.

Joke/Test Canvases

Turkey

The Turkey Canvas was the April Fools Day joke for 2023. It shut down along with the second Canvas 2 on 1 June 2023.

It's a reference to the fact that Turkey is a big chunk of the community and have their flags everywhere,so a whole canvas was made for them as a joke.

69x420 "Secret" Canvas

Zekiahepic established a short-lived Secret Canvas on 17 August 2022. The canvas was shut down shortly after.

4096 Colors

The 4096-Color Canvas was a joke canvas. It has only ever been seen in a single development screenshot by Zekiahepic.

Jamspace

A VC Jamspace canvas was created on 15 July, 2023.

Self-hosted Canvases

Self-hosting is a feature which allows you to set up an r/place server on a personal computer. Others could connect to it by pressing "p" and typing in the URL to the server and board to load. Nobody actively utilized this feature, albeit some groups of players had plans to set up self-hosted canvases as a form of refuge from the main canvases.

It is currently advised to use the new server software, RplaceServer for creating instances of the rplace canvas. Zekiah created an obsoleted manual. However, most information for setting up an instance can be found on the RplaceServer repository directly, named RplaceServer on github.
